Review: I Wrestled A Bear Once live in Erie, PA 8/18/13

After a successful run on the All-Stars Tour, Math-Core greats “IWRESTLEDABEARONCE” did a select city tour on their way home, making a stop in Erie, Pennsylvania.  Hats off to Jamie Popeski and Eric Harrington (Erie Entertainment) for being able to lure such an act to the area in an effort to revive the music scene. Along with IWABO, Dayshell also performed.  As many may know, the band is fronted by Sheyley Bourget (formerly of “Of Mice & Men”), and is slowly gaining recognition from their explosive and heartfelt performances.  Along with these two power houses, also performing were local favorites Melrose, Perdition, and Polaris Breach.

Kicking it off and warming the pit up was the two local hard-core bands, Melrose and Polaris Breach; both of which set the tone for a very passionate and energetic evening.  After a few more local bands hit the stage, it was time for Dayshell and IWRESTELEDABEARONCE…and as previously mentioned Dayshell put on a stellar show. After watching them live, it was a relief to know Sheyley was doing his own thing with his new band and not an Of Mice & Men knock off.  IWABP wrapped things up with a very memorable performance.  They are certainly a must-see band with a set that has everything wrapped in to one:  pure emotion, talent, and of course just a fun time had by fans and the band. IWRESTELEDABEARONCE is a band that is built for small venue shows, not saying they can’t play on a big stage, but being in a small building gives them a chance to really connect with the crowd and even allowed Courtney (vocals) the chance to come out and mosh with everyone on the floor.  If you ever get a chance to see either of these two touring bands, go, because it is well worth the price of admission.
