HAKEN reveal video for brand new track ‘Pareidolia’

Posted in All Metal, Artist Watch, New Music, News, Releases, Shows with tags , on August 6, 2013 by Randy
Progressive-metallers Haken are gearing up for the release of third album and InsideOut Music debut ‘The Mountain’. The time has come for them to reveal the second track to be taken from said album, and this comes in the shape of the ten-minute long journey that is ‘Pareidolia’. The band had this to say about the track: ‘This song is at the heavier end of the Haken spectrum. It’s a bit of a culture clash too; we had fun incorporating the Hindu scale, some tribal percussion and even a Greek bouzouki into our sound. We asked Marc Papeghin to create the visuals for us after he blew us away with his epic 22 minute Visions video.’

You can watch the track here:

‘The Mountain’ will be available on several different formats, including a limited edition digipak CD which includes two bonus tracks, a standard jewelcase CD, a heavyweight gatefold 2LP and digital download. You can head to InsideOutMusic’s shop and pre-order those now:

FATES WARNING – Reveal new album title, artwork and release date; Announce tourdates!

Posted in All Metal, Artist Watch, New Music, News, Releases, Shows with tags , on August 6, 2013 by Randy

U.S. Progressive Metal pioneers FATES WARNING have finally returned with their first studio album release in about a decade! Entitled “Darkness In A Different Light”, the album will be released on September 30th, 2013 in Europe and October 1st, 2013 in North America via InsideOutMusic.

“Darkness In A Different Light” is FATES WARNING’s first album of new material since the release of “FWX” in 2004 and also marks the first release for the band’s stellar current line-up of Ray Alder (vocals), Jim Matheos and Frank Aresti (guitars), Joey Vera (bass) and Bobby Jarzombek (drums).

The album was produced by Matheos and mixed by long time FATES WARNING engineer Phil Magnotti, while mastering was handled by Maor Appelbaum at Maor Appelbaum Mastering, California.  The (above pictured) artwork for the album was designed by Conte di San Pietro.

FATES WARNING vocalist Ray Alder checked in with a comment as follows:

“Darkness in a Different Light” is the result of almost two years of very hard work from everyone in the band.
I believe that this line-up is the best that Fates has ever had, and I also think that it comes through in the music on this album. It’s been almost nine years since our last studio album and I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished here.
We are looking very much forward to playing some new songs for our fans who have stuck by us over all these years. We plan on touring as much as possible for “Darkness in a Different Light” and hopefully we’ll hit a few places we’ve never been…”

Indeed, FATES WARNING already have headlining touring runs confirmed for October in Europe and November/December in North America, with further live activity to follow in 2014.

JOLLY reveal moving new video for ‘As Heard On Tape’

Posted in Artist Watch, New Music, News, Releases with tags , , on August 5, 2013 by Randy
This year so far, Jolly have not only released the stunning second part of ‘The Audio Guide To Happiness’, they’ve also toured Europe and the US with Polish progressive legends Riverside and released two music videos. Now the band are extremely pleased to reveal the moving new video for the beautiful track‘As Heard On Tape’, which can be viewed here:
The band had this to say about the video: “When you’re going through hell, keep going.” -Winston Churchill

Sometimes the only way to deal with true pain is to just feel it head on.  At the height of the Hurricane Sandy Disaster, David Roya, the father of JOLLY drummer/producer Louis Abramson, decided to walk to the beach for the sole purpose of letting his pain take him over.  This was a particularly hard time for David, living for months in what seemed like a post-apocalyptic world, with no power, limited food, cloudy polluted air, and all the time in the world to think.  Beyond the immediate trauma of the disaster, he now began to face his own mortality and feel the repressed pain of his entire life.

David walked to the beach, and spent about an hour crying, laughing, screaming, and just running through all the emotions that arose.

When he was finished, he felt a surge of relief, and energy.  When he returned back home, JOLLY was over finishing up a day of filming the video for Dust Nation Bleak, and discussing ideas for further videos.  David came bursting into the room and began to tell JOLLY all about his experience on the beach and how profound it was.  He was oozing with excitement and elation.
After he left, bassist Anthony Rondinone turned to the rest of the band and said “this should be a music video..”

Soon after, Louis approached his father about the possibility of filming him while he went through this intense catharsis.  He said at first it might be strange, but eventually he would be able to forget the camera was there.  So off they went, father and son, to the dismal desolate beach, and there began a rather strange and beautiful experience.  While trying to get artistic camera angles, Louis is simultaneously experiencing his father get completely overtaken by his emotions.  This was a completely new experience for him, as his father had always proved to be a “tough” guy.

What may seem like a crazy man ranting on the beach is actually something quite beautiful, profound, and totally real.  At the darkest time in a mans life, he was courageous enough to feel his emotions, and let the world see him in his most raw and vulnerable state.  And you are witnessing this all through the eyes of his son.
JOLLY loves you.’

The band also recently announced two dates in the US with label-mates Spock’s Beard Sound of Contact, as well as two shows with The Winery Dogs, details of which can be found below:
