WaterTower Music is thrilled to announce the release of “Sucker Punch: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” on March 22, 2011. The audio companion to the film director Zack Snyder describes as “Alice In Wonderland with machine guns” has taken over two years to create, and will delight filmgoers and music fans of all generations.

Snyder (Watchmen, 300), collaborated with Grammy®-nominated composer and music director Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge!) and composer Tyler Bates (Watchmen, 300, Californication) to select the collection of songs featured on the soundtrack, which play an integral role in the film.

“Working with Marius and re-teaming with Tyler on Sucker Punch’s soundtrack was an extraordinary experience,” said Snyder. “Sucker Punch is a film created with multiple levels of reality, so this same layered construct had to be considered and applied when approaching the music. The selection of songs we chose and the various ways in which they were each re-envisioned had to add depth, dimension and meaning to the sequences they exist within. Marius and Tyler did an amazing job creating an intricate musical landscape to accompany the surreal imagery of the film.”

Fascinatingly reworked versions of classic songs illuminate the soundtrack, with the film’s star Emily Browning covering “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” (Eurythmics), “Where Is My Mind?” (The Pixies), and “Asleep” (The Smiths), and stars Carla Gugino (Watchmen) and Oscar Isaac (Robin Hood) performing a sultry, musical theatre-inspired version of “Love Is The Drug” (Roxy Music). Alison Mosshart (The Dead Weather, The Kills) and Carla Azar (Autolux) team up on a haunting version of “Tomorrow Never Knows” (The Beatles). Björk fans will love the newly created version of “Army Of Me (Sucker Punch Remix)” that features Skunk Anansie and clocks in at nearly seven minutes.

Intense, sexy, edgy and highly imaginative, these new and unrestrained arrangements of legendary songs, along with the original mash up of Queen’s “I Want It All/We Will Rock You” featuring Armageddon Aka Geddy (Terror Squad), are the backbone of the film driving the relationship between the motives of the characters and the lengths they are willing to go for survival.

Sucker Punch is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary.

She has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive.  Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls-the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish)-to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm).

Led by Babydoll, the girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents, with a virtual arsenal at their disposal.  Together, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive. But with the help of a Wise Man (Scott Glenn), their unbelievable journey-if they succeed-will set them free.

AARON LEWIS TO MARK RELEASE OF DEBUT SOLO CD ‘TOWN LINE’ WITH PERFORMANCE OF ITS FIRST SINGLE ‘COUNTRY BOY’ ON ‘JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE’ TUESDAY, MARCH 1 AND APPEARANCE ON ‘ROCKLINE’ MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28

Posted in Releases on February 24, 2011 by Randy

AARON LEWIS will mark the March 1 release of his solo debut CD TOWN LINE (via Nashville-based Stroudavarious Records) with a performance that night on ABC-TV’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”  The Staind frontman will perform “Country Boy,” the CD’s powerful first single.  He’ll also appear the day before (Monday, February 28) on the nationally syndicated radio show “Rockline.”

In its first week, the singer, songwriter, and guitarist’s personal manifesto “Country Boy” sold over 20,000 digital singles, debuting at #9 on the Billboard Country Digital Singles sales chart.  Since its release, the single has sold over 182,000 copies (over 21,000 last week alone, outselling the top 5 most-played songs at rock radio combined) and is currently #15 on the Country Digital Single sales chart and already Top 25 at Active Rock. The song has also generated widespread airplay ahead of the official single release, with various rock and country stations adding it to their playlists on their own.  The striking video for “Country Boy” quickly hit #1 on the CMT.com chart, receiving over 200,000 views in its first ten days on CMT.com alone.  The video is also making a strong presence on the network’s “Top 20 Countdown” show (#17 this week) and is still in the Top 5 on CMT.com’s “Today’s Top Videos,” 11 weeks after its 12/1/10 release.  The video has been viewed over 1.7 million times on Youtube.

With a little help from legends George Jones and Charlie DanielsLEWIS tells his story like never before on the song.  LEWIS’ voice carries a catchy chorus over a slide guitar, and he opens up about his past, present, and future. Featuring a fiery fiddle lead from Daniels and a booming verse from Jones, “Country Boy” strikes a balance between classic and modern country.

Their participation formally announces LEWIS‘ arrival in Nashville with a bang. The song’s music video is an event in and of itself.  Not only does the video feature Jones and Daniels in the studio, but it also draws from LEWIS‘ own family archives, giving a glimpse into his youth, home, passions, and so much more.

TOWN LINE was produced by Grammy Award-winning James Stroud and LEWIS and proudly sits alongside LEWIS’ numerous accolades. With Staind, he crafted the most-played rock song of the decade, “It’s Been Awhile,” sold 13 million albums worldwide, had four consecutive top 3 debuts on the Billboard 200, and released multiple cross-format radio hits. However, listeners haven’t heard him like this until now.

Country music comes naturally for LEWIS.  It’s something the Staind frontman grew up with in rural Vermont.  It’s something that he comes back to. It’s something that inspires him. It’s something that’s in his blood. Hints of that are present in the stripped honesty and acoustic melodies of Staind hits such as “Outside,” “It’s Been Awhile” and “So Far Away.”

LEWIS fully shows that spirit on TOWN LINE, which includes the songs “Massachusetts,” “Vicious Circles” and a new version of “Tangled Up in You,” the stand-out ballad from Staind’s sixth album, The Illusion of Progress. “The song was already a little bit country in term of its flavor with the slide guitar and the pedal steel,” LEWIS says. “We brought it further down that road.”

Look for LEWIS to continue his tour of solo acoustic dates (see below); his freewheeling acoustic shows (which he has been performing for the past few years in tandem with his continuing role inStaind) have earned him rave reviews.
