Posted in All Metal, New Music, News with tags , , , , , , on November 10, 2011 by Randy

Irish metallers STORMZONE will release their new album, “Zero To Rage”, in Europe on November 21 and in North America on January 17, 2012 via SPV/Steamhammer.

Commented STORMZONE vocalist John “Harv” Harbinson: “Apart from being a singer of heavy metal music for many years, I have also always been a huge fan of heavy metal, and I have no hesitation in saying that the new STORMZONE album, ‘Zero to Rage’ is something that as a singer I am immensely proud of and as a fan I would definitely go out and buy!”

The track listing for the follow-up to last year’s “Death Dealer” is as follows:

01. Where We Belong

02. Zero To Rage

03. Jester’s Laughter

04. This Is Our Victory

05. Fear Hotel

06. Hail The Brave

07. Uprising

08. Last Man Fighting

09. Empire Of Fear

10. Monsters

11. Voice Inside My Head

12. Cuchulainn’s Story

The song “Jester’s Laughter” is available for streaming HERE

Formed in 2005 in Belfast by vocalist Harv, STORMZONE recorded its debut album soon after and secured a deal with U.K. rock label Escape Music who released “Caught In The Act” in 2007 (also released by Avalon/Marquee in Japan in the same year). The LP was a superb hard rock record was also essentially a “studio” band album with Harv and friends playing all instruments. The cover artwork for “Caught In The Act” was painted by famous fantasy artist Rodney Matthews. Rodney has also contributed the artwork for the new STORMZONE album “Death Dealer”.

It was not until later in 2007 that the full STORMZONE lineup was formed, essentially to tour in promotion of the debut album with all the musicians being from Belfast. Most had previously played in local bands except drummer Davy Bates. He was the sticks-man for legendary Belfast band SWEET SAVAGE (immortalized when METALLICA covered their “Killing Time” opus as the B-side of “The Unforgiven”).

For two years STORMZONE were on the road playing in Europe, including support slots with Y&T, WHITE LION, TESLA, GEORGE LYNCH, and L.A. GUNS. They also made appearances at various festivals, such as Firefest (UK), Sweden Rock, Lorca Rock (Spain), Z Rock (UK) and Raismesfest (France), before re-entering the studio in the summer of 2009 to record their second album.

STORMZONE attracted many friends with the debut album including admiration from legendary producer/DJ Neal Kay who saw in the band the same early signs of stardom shown by another group he discovered, IRON MAIDEN! With the band playing live constantly they inevitably hardened up their sound so the new recordings came out much more aggressive than the first album but still kept the quality, melody and harmony of before. Co-produced by Neal Kay, “Death Dealer” was finished towards the end of 2009 and released in April 2010.

STORMZONE is:

Steve Moore – Guitar

Keith Harris – Guitar

John “Harv” Harbinson – Lead Vocals

Graham McNulty – Bass

Davy Bates – Drums

MUSICIAN/PRODUCER/INNOVATOR DAVE STEWART LAUNCHES ‘CREATIVITY,’ A REVOLUTIONARY NEW IPAD APP WITH MARK SIMMONS BASED ON THEIR ACCLAIMED BOOK ‘THE BUSINESS PLAYGROUND: WHERE CREATIVITY AND COMMERCE COLLIDE’

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on November 10, 2011 by Randy

You’ll find musician/producer/innovator DAVE STEWART where the sparks fly.  His mind is an anything-goes funhouse–a place where traditional thinking is turned on its head and the dice are rolled so that intriguing new possibilities are fully explored.

This was colorfully illustrated in his acclaimed book The Business Playground:  Where Creativity and Commerce Collide (2010, New Riders in the U.S.; Financial Times Prentice Hall in the UK), written with branding expert Mark Simmons.  Now they’ve launched CREATIVITY, a revolutionary new iPad app that further helps people unleash their creative mojo.

As with the book (now available in seven additional languages), CREATIVITY is an inspirational and entertaining guide to innovation and creativity that includes a foreword by Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson; interviews with creative thinkers such as Mick Jagger and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen; and a host of stories, techniques and tools like“Idea Spaghetti” and the “Wheel of Distraction.”

The multi-media experience app includes not only the full-color book (complete with photographs and illustrations) and numerous interactive features, but also a complete audio version of the book, narrated by Voice Actor Lin Gallagher, and can be switched on at any place in the book. Notably, CREATIVITY includes a revolutionary new tool called F* which allows users to highlight any word or phrase to access related media, news and products.  It provides a depth of information and social connectivity never before seen on the published page. F* was developed by famos* (www.famos.com) in partnership with Dave Stewart and Mick Jagger. This is the first time it has ever been used in an app, providing a new level that hasn’t been possible until now. CREATIVITY was built by Dave Levi and his company Double-Apps.

“The whole process from writing the book to creating this interactive app has been thrilling and an eye opener into the world of possibilities where new technologies marry the printed page,” Stewart says.  “I’m excited to use F* because it means this is the first business book ever written that literally is a business within itself. My co-writer Mark is an inspiration to work with and as you’ll see by the book we have a wealth of other business ideas up our sleeves.”

“Creativity is often about combining things that don’t usually go together,” Simmons says.  “And so in that spirit our CREATIVITY app is a hybrid book-audiobook-game multimedia mashup that defies categorization. With amazing devices like the iPad redefining how content is consumed, doing something expected would have been such a wasted opportunity.”

The CREATIVITY app is being sold through the Apple App store for just $9.99. Most digital books being sold through services like Amazon or Apple’s iBooks cost at least this amount, and most audio books cost significantly more. So to have the two rolled into one, together with all of the games and other interactive features included in the app, make the CREATIVITY app an incredible value for money.

Here are some of the CREATIVITY app’s features:

  • The app includes a live RSS feed of new ideas and information about creativity that is curated by Dave and Mark.
  • There are also 13 fully interactive original games that app users can play alone or with others, to help them to come up with ideas and enhance their creativity.
  • The games were created by Dave and Mark and include ones on: framing problems in the right way to get the best ideas; using visuals  to simulate the creative process; choosing between different ideas; and putting yourself in the best frame of mind to be creative.
  • Each one is fun to play, but teaches a valuable lesson about creativity and innovation.

As Sir Richard Branson writes in the foreword: “Dave and Mark’s enthusiasm for creativity and how it can be applied in business leaps off every page. The Business Playground will bring out the creative child inside all of us and I can’t imagine many readers being left uninspired to try it out for themselves. Their mix of insights about creativity, revealing examples, anecdotes, interviews with creative thinkers, and games make for an entertaining and informative read. If you get half as much out of this book as I did, you’re in for quite a treat.”

About DAVE STEWART:

Described by Bob Dylan as a “fearless innovator,” Dave Stewart is a musician, music producer, author, entrepreneur, filmmaker and philanthropist. The British artist’s music career alone spans three decades and more than 100 million album sales, highlighted by his collaboration with Annie Lennox in the groundbreaking pop-rock group Eurythmics (“Sweet Dreams [Are Made of This],”“Would I Lie to You?” and dozens more). Behind the scenes, he’s produced albums and co-written songs for Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Bono, Sinead O’Connor, Mick Jagger, Katy Perry, Jon Bon Jovi and a host of others, racking up numerous Producer, Songwriter and Grammy Awards along the way. In 2011, he released a solo album The Blackbird Diaries, as well as the self-titled debut album by Super Heavy, a new band he created along with Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Damian Marley and A.R. Rahman. Also in 2011, he co-produced and co-wrote the Joss Stone album LP1 and the Stevie Nicks album In Your Dreams. With Glen Ballard, Stewart wrote songs for the musical “Ghost” (based on the movie), which opened in London in 2011, and will premiere on Broadway in 2012. Stewart’s work outside of the music world is just as impressive. He has written two comic books (one of which, Zombie Broadway, is being developed into a full length feature film); directed a number of short films and movies (including 2000’s Honest, which debuted at Cannes); produced an award-winning documentary that reflected his early musical passions (1991’s Deep Blues: A Musical Pilgrimage to the Crossroads); and created the television series, Malibu Country, starring Reba McEntire which was recently acquired by ABC. As an entrepreneur, Stewart founded a multimedia creative hub along with Paul Allen called “The Hospital”; developed his own media company (Weapons of Mass Entertainment); and participated in a number of philanthropic and non-profit projects, from Greenpeace to Stand Up to Cancer. As a philanthropist, Stewart also worked personally with Nelson Mandela and helped launch his 46664 campaign using his innovative thinking.

About MARK SIMMONS:

TRIVIUM TO HIT THE ROAD WITH IN FLAMES THIS WINTER :::: CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED ALBUM IN WAVES OUT NOW

Posted in Artist Watch, New Music, News with tags , , , , , on November 10, 2011 by Randy

New York, NY: While there’s no place like home, Trivium certainly aren’t content with hanging their hats right now. They prefer to live on the road, bringing their brand of forward-thinking metal to the masses on a near-constant basis. The band just wrapped back-to-back U.S. tours. First, they served as  a featured attraction on the Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Fest, which marked their second stint on the quintessential summer fest. They followed that run up by supporting their labelmates in Dream Theater.

Trivium will succeed both of those high-profile treks by spending the winter touring with In Flames, hitting theaters and ballrooms for a five-week run.

“Trivium can’t wait to get out again on the road with In Flames. They are one of our all time favorite bands and together we plan on giving our best shows to the fans,” singer/guitarist Matt Heafy said excitedly about the forthcoming trek.

The tour launches Jan. 12 in Milwaukee and runs through Feb. 21, circling back through the Midwest to Chicago. The tour will hit major cities over the course of several weeks, including Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston, Denver, New York and more. The full itinerary of dates is below.

Trivium recently debuted the video for “Built to Fall” from their critically acclaimed new album In Waves.  You can watch it here.

Billboard called In Waves “the musical homecoming that the metal band’s fans have been waiting for,” while Revolver asserted that the album “will keep diehard Trivium fans happy.” ARTISTdirect.com described the album as “forward-thinking,” as well.

HALIFAX’S BEN CAPLAN & THE CASUAL SMOKERS KICK OFF CANADIAN TOUR DATES IN SUPPORT OF NEW RELEASE THIS WEEK

Posted in Canadian Artist News, New Music, News with tags , , , , on November 10, 2011 by Randy

After an astute performance at last week’s annual Nova Scotia Music Week in Yarmouth, NS, and a wildly successful European tour, Halifax’s Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers launch a Canadian tour this week. To support the release of their stunning new release In The Time of the Great Remembering, the band is temporarily bidding the Maritimes adieu to play a number of dates throughout November with Montreal’s Charlotte Cornfield.

“In the Time of the Great Remembering is easy to like. It doesn’t take many listens to get to know it and have bits and pieces of Caplan’s gruffly romantic songs stuck in your head,” reviewed the Dalhousie Gazette.

“Halifax is my home but there’s something really special about taking In The Time of the Great Remembering on the road again, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to play these songs to audiences I don’t see quite as often,” says Caplan. “I’ve spent the last three months on the road promoting this record and it’s been a really wonderful experience, touring is one of the greatest parts about being a musician.”

This fall has already seen Ben Caplan gracing stages at Reeperbahn Festival in Germany and sweeping through the United Kingdom converting boat loads of new fans along the way. Caplan always makes it of importance to play on home soil. He managed to make appearances at both Pop Montreal festival and Halifax Pop Explosion as well.

Paying homage to classic blues with tones faintly lit by folk, this release demonstrates Caplan’s uncanny response to songwriting. It takes a listener through a soulful, rousing adventure with arrangements of musical prowess molded by the likes of Tom Waits and Bob Dylan. Tour dates and download links below!

BIO

Rugged, raspy, and roaring with charisma, Halifax’s Ben Caplan is to folklore what smoke is to bourbon. Perfectly coupled. Ben’s songwriting is as bold in range as it is in ferocity. Fueled by a quality of melodrama and powerful lyricism, it’s the romance and the manhood crashing with his voice that gives Caplan a truly innovative and experimental artistry. A sound that bridges the gap between controlled composition and unruly passion.

Striding in pace with gypsy-inspired strings amid the sultry tones of clarinet and saxophone, Caplan has marked his place in the Canadian music landscape with a growling spirit similar to that of Tom Waits. Caplan’s tours have extended throughout the Commonwealth, the rhapsodic energy in his live show an elegant cacophony gaining attention around the world .

Breaking between guitar, banjo, piano, and melodica, Caplan’s stage show is almost reminiscent of a burly and bearded Freddy Mercury; a raging, strong, and exploratory songwriter, it’s the blues in his soul, and the heart in your chest pounding as one that makes Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers an act not to be missed.

Ben Caplan has been a touring musician since 2006. Seasoned in coast-to-coast travel, Caplan his seen stages in the UK and has performed a rolodex of festivals.
