FATES WARNING – Reveal new album title, artwork and release date; Announce tourdates!

Posted in All Metal, Artist Watch, New Music, News, Releases, Shows with tags , on August 6, 2013 by Randy

U.S. Progressive Metal pioneers FATES WARNING have finally returned with their first studio album release in about a decade! Entitled “Darkness In A Different Light”, the album will be released on September 30th, 2013 in Europe and October 1st, 2013 in North America via InsideOutMusic.

“Darkness In A Different Light” is FATES WARNING’s first album of new material since the release of “FWX” in 2004 and also marks the first release for the band’s stellar current line-up of Ray Alder (vocals), Jim Matheos and Frank Aresti (guitars), Joey Vera (bass) and Bobby Jarzombek (drums).

The album was produced by Matheos and mixed by long time FATES WARNING engineer Phil Magnotti, while mastering was handled by Maor Appelbaum at Maor Appelbaum Mastering, California.  The (above pictured) artwork for the album was designed by Conte di San Pietro.

FATES WARNING vocalist Ray Alder checked in with a comment as follows:

“Darkness in a Different Light” is the result of almost two years of very hard work from everyone in the band.
I believe that this line-up is the best that Fates has ever had, and I also think that it comes through in the music on this album. It’s been almost nine years since our last studio album and I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished here.
We are looking very much forward to playing some new songs for our fans who have stuck by us over all these years. We plan on touring as much as possible for “Darkness in a Different Light” and hopefully we’ll hit a few places we’ve never been…”

Indeed, FATES WARNING already have headlining touring runs confirmed for October in Europe and November/December in North America, with further live activity to follow in 2014.

WARBRINGER set to release new album IV: Empires Collapse on October 15, 2013

Posted in All Metal, Artist Watch, New Music, News, Previews, Releases, Shows, Uncategorized with tags , , on July 31, 2013 by Randy

(Los Angeles, CA) – L.A.’s own WARBRINGER, have been locked away in The Omen Room studio with producer Steve Evetts (Dillinger Escape Plan, Sepultura, Symphony X)for the past few months and are about to complete their next masterpiece, IV: Empires Collapse. The next level results of the new album are due to each band member pushing their own abilities and working together on the complex arrangements as well as the simple hooks.

IV: Empires Collapse is a collective work between the five band members and the producers. “Musically, all five of us brought something for the rest of the group to work off of and we were all a part of chiseling away at the ideas” says drummer Carlos Cruz of the recording process. “Having five band members with eclectic tastes in music from Crust Punk to Progressive music and everything in between brought about new musical directions for the material.”

The band has been documenting the recording process via social networking and capturing everything on film. Here is the latest update:

Darkest Hour – Disarm the Descent Tour with Killswitch Engage [Review]

Posted in News, Reviews, Shows with tags , , , , , , on July 15, 2013 by Randy

In all honesty, all that can be said about this tour is “WOW!” A solid line up from start to finish.  Veteran acts like Darkest Hour and Killswitch Engage to one of the hottest up and coming metalcore acts in the last few years, Miss May I. Cleveland Ohio’s stop on the tour was near the end, and with all the intensity that every single act put forth one can only imagine how nuts the first leg of the tour had to of been.

On to the most seasoned act on this tour, Darkest Hour; these guys have been together since 1995.  Yes 1995.  That means most of the guys they were playing with on this tour were barely out of diapers when Darkest Hour signed with their first label. With that being said, you never would’ve known because they came out on stage and put a heartfelt effort in and went just as hard, if not harder in some regards than the rest of the other bands.  Playing new fan favorites like “Love as a Weapon” and “Demons” to some old school metalcore such as “An Epitaph” and “The Saddest Nation.”  There was a little something in their set that can appeal to metal heads no matter what age.  Speaking of these older metalcore bands that have paved the way, there is one thing that The Word Alive did during their set that has to be mentioned.  As most of you know, Tim Lambesis is currently not allowed to leave the state of California due to some unforeseen circumstances and had to cancel going on this tour, which left The Word Alive filling the void for As I Lay Dying.  Regardless of how that predicament turns out, no one can take away what good As I Lay dying has done for metal and The Word Alive showed their appreciation by playing a cover of As I Lay Dying’s hit “94 Hours.”  Much respect goes to The Word Alive for doing so as a way to show thanks to someone who has inspired them musically.  Last but not least, Killswitch Engage put on a killer show, especially with the crazy stage antics of Adam D.  Let us take a minute to welcome back Jesse Leach (original vocalist for KSE). They played it all during this show, old time favorites like “Fixation of the Darkness” from Jesse’s first stint with the band, to hits that were made popular when Howard Jones was in.

This tour was amazing and if you didn’t make it, well you certainly missed out. Hopefully these bands will tour again together someday…but if they don’t, everyone in this line up is worth the price of admission.  Keep an eye out for the next time any of them come to a city near you.
