KILL DEVIL HILL are proud to announce the addition of TYPE O NEGATIVE drummer Johnny Kelly to the band. Kelly, who also plays with DANZIG and his own band A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH, replaces the recently departed Vinny Appice.

“I’m really excited about coming on board with Kill Devil Hill,” says Kelly. “I’ve been a fan since their debut and have known the guys for a long-time. It’s also clear that I have some really big shoes to fill. I’m ready for that challenge as I prepare for KDH’s next chapter – this is gonna be a blast!”

The band will play their first shows with Kelly behind the kit April 4-6 [see dates below], three warm-up shows before embarking on an Australian run with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. More expansive North American dates will be announced shortly.

Adds KILL DEVIL HILL bassist Rex Brown: “We all have a lot of love and respect for Vinny and have been honored to have jammed with him over the last few years – we wish Vinny well with all his future endeavors, it has been a blast!”

“It’s been a great musical adventure from the beginning, but the time has now come to go our separate ways and continue to make music that we love,” says Appice of his decision to leave the band.

Featuring PANTERA and former DOWN bassist Rex Brown, ex-PISSING RAZORS frontman Dewey Bragg, acclaimed session/touring guitarist MARK ZAVON and now TYPE O NEGATIVE, DANZIG and A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH drummer Johnny Kelly, KILL DEVIL HILL deliver a crushing sound that combines a contemporary feel with a classic aesthetic that few bands today can rival. The band will be on the road throughout 2014.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE to Play Special One-Off Date during CBGB Festival – Saturday, October 12th at Santos Party House

Posted in All Metal, Artist Watch, Featured, New Music, News, Shows with tags , , , , , , on October 9, 2013 by Randy

The Merciless Book of Metal Lists (Howie Abrams and Sacha Jenkins) presents a very special show for the 2013 CBGB Festival in NYC. This intimate affair features Massachusetts metal giants Killswitch Engage at the 400 capacity Santos Party House on Saturday October 12th.

“This was originally going to be a secret show for our book release back in the Spring, but schedules didn’t allow for it, so we stayed on it, and decided to do it for CBGB Fest,” offers ‘The Merciless Book of Metal Lists’ author Howie Abrams. He adds, “Killswitch Engage is one of my favorite bands; one which has reinvigorated metal in recent years, and we’re proud to be working with them to make this great night happen.”

Killswitch Engage is about to head out on tour in the U.S. with the mighty Lamb of God, with support from Testament and Huntress, and also wanted to offer up this unique event to its most loyal fans. NYC and tri-state area fans can catch KsE on this upcoming tour at Roseland Ballroom in NYC (Oct-25) and at Starland Ballroom in NJ (Nov-22).

Additionally, proceeds from the show will be donated to The FC Foundation, an organization whose mission is to fight cancer by raising awareness and to educate about early cancer detection, ultimately putting an end to late-stage cancer diagnoses.

Support for KsE will come from NYC’s heaviest ladies (and two gentlemen) Eye Ra Haze, whose atmospheric brand of metal compliments the evening perfectly.

KsE encourage fans attending the Santos show to bring proof of their purchased Roseland or Starland ticket to the merch area to claim a special KsE autographed item.

Tickets will be on sale Tuesday October 8th at 10 AM via: http://www.ticketweb.com/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=3853324&pl=santos

All tickets are $25. Doors will open at 6:00 PM – show time is 7:15.

Santos Party House is located at 96 Lafayette Street and is easily accessible by subway.

*Limited CBGB badges will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Darkest Hour – Disarm the Descent Tour with Killswitch Engage [Review]

Posted in News, Reviews, Shows with tags , , , , , , on July 15, 2013 by Randy

In all honesty, all that can be said about this tour is “WOW!” A solid line up from start to finish.  Veteran acts like Darkest Hour and Killswitch Engage to one of the hottest up and coming metalcore acts in the last few years, Miss May I. Cleveland Ohio’s stop on the tour was near the end, and with all the intensity that every single act put forth one can only imagine how nuts the first leg of the tour had to of been.

On to the most seasoned act on this tour, Darkest Hour; these guys have been together since 1995.  Yes 1995.  That means most of the guys they were playing with on this tour were barely out of diapers when Darkest Hour signed with their first label. With that being said, you never would’ve known because they came out on stage and put a heartfelt effort in and went just as hard, if not harder in some regards than the rest of the other bands.  Playing new fan favorites like “Love as a Weapon” and “Demons” to some old school metalcore such as “An Epitaph” and “The Saddest Nation.”  There was a little something in their set that can appeal to metal heads no matter what age.  Speaking of these older metalcore bands that have paved the way, there is one thing that The Word Alive did during their set that has to be mentioned.  As most of you know, Tim Lambesis is currently not allowed to leave the state of California due to some unforeseen circumstances and had to cancel going on this tour, which left The Word Alive filling the void for As I Lay Dying.  Regardless of how that predicament turns out, no one can take away what good As I Lay dying has done for metal and The Word Alive showed their appreciation by playing a cover of As I Lay Dying’s hit “94 Hours.”  Much respect goes to The Word Alive for doing so as a way to show thanks to someone who has inspired them musically.  Last but not least, Killswitch Engage put on a killer show, especially with the crazy stage antics of Adam D.  Let us take a minute to welcome back Jesse Leach (original vocalist for KSE). They played it all during this show, old time favorites like “Fixation of the Darkness” from Jesse’s first stint with the band, to hits that were made popular when Howard Jones was in.

This tour was amazing and if you didn’t make it, well you certainly missed out. Hopefully these bands will tour again together someday…but if they don’t, everyone in this line up is worth the price of admission.  Keep an eye out for the next time any of them come to a city near you.
