With less than two weeks before their Carbon-Based Anatomy EP is released, CYNIC have teamed up with NPR to exclusively premiere another new track. The song entitled “Box Up My Bones” can be streamed HERE. In addition be sure to check out NPR’s interview with Cynic front man Paul Masvidal.

On their new EP Carbon-Based Anatomy, CYNIC have once again taken their natural interfusion of musical styles and turned it into something truly singular. Carbon-Based Anatomy is equal parts King Crimson, Tool, Muse and Allan Holdsworth. It’s a 23-minute transcendent musical journey through the fertile musical minds of guitarist Paul Masvidal and progressive drumming icon Sean Reinert. Beginning with their much-venerated 1993 debut release “Focus”, CYNIC have long been famous for pushing musical boundaries. Now in 2011, CYNIC have redefined themselves once again with a 6-song EP that combines diverse influences from 70s-inspired Prog Rock to cutting-edge Metal, tribal folk and futuristic alien shapes and sounds.

Carbon-Based Anatomy can be pre-ordered from iTunes and at the Season of Mist Web Shop. In addition the band has made the title track from the EP available for a free download on their website http://www.cyniconline.com and via the Season of Mist Website.

All of these diverse elements have been harnessed and carefully shaped by mixer John Hiler, into what is unquestionably the most open and expansive-sounding release of

CYNIC’s career. Carbon-Based Anatomy is retro, yet at the same time is unapologetically modern. It is respectful of the groundbreaking artists that have made musical evolution possible yet refuses to be stifled by that reverence. It is wholly appreciative of past musical landmarks but is unashamedly forward- thinking. Carbon-Based Anatomy is CYNIC’s next bold step into the future and is a harbinger of the great music to come.

CYNIC will be joined on their US and European tours by new members Brandon Giffin (ex-The Faceless) on bass and Baltimore Holdsworth-styled guitar prodigy Max Phelps. Tour dates are can be found below.

New Music: Seven Days After

Posted in All Metal, Artist Watch, New Music, News with tags , , , , , , on November 4, 2011 by Randy

Seven Days After: Was founded in 2010 after the break up of Victory Records Artist “the Autumn Offering” and frustrated with the state of heavy metal, Matthew and Jesse decided to do something more melodic. They both grew up on Slayer, but also bands like Alice In Chains and Soundgarden were huge favorites. Known for having a great set of pipes. Matt McChesney: was exited to really show what he could do. The clean passages of his former bands “The Autumn Offering” and “Hell Within” were few and far between. With such aggressive music, Matthew always did what the song called for, which was usually roaring like Godzilla. Now with Seven Days After, he has a platform for his melodic singing. The album is full of great vocal harmonies, passionate singing and memorable haunting music that will stay with you!!!

Jesse Saint: brings his amazing guitar skills, and massive tone to this record. Rather than shredding like he did on the “self titled” Autumn Offering record he chose to show the haunting, more melodic side to his playing (Guitar nerds don’t worry, there are some blistering bluesy solo’s to be heard). Jesse who has toured with many bands of varied styles like “Scum of the Earth, Silent Civilian, & Depswa” was more focused on memorable catchy melodies and bone crushing Riffs.

No Ego on this album “The Writing” took precedent fusing elements of 90’s rock, Heavy Riffs, and Monster hooks Fans of bands like Alice N Chains, Stone Sour, Faith no More, etc will love this new Hard Rock Act. The bands 1st full length album is due out Winter of 2011 and was produced by logan Mader (Machine Head, Soulfly, Devil Driver, Dommin etc). AWARD-WINNING FILM DIRECTOR DARREN ARONOFSKY TEAMS UP WITH LOU REED AND METALLICA FOR VIDEO SHOOT

ARONOFSKY DIRECTS VIDEO FOR “ICED HONEY” –
A TRACK OFF REED AND METALLICA’S COLLABORATION LULU

November 3, 2011 – Los Angeles, Ca – Award-winning film director Darren Aronofsky, best-known for the Oscar-nominated films Black Swan and The Wrestler, will direct a performance music video for “Iced Honey” – a track from Lou Reed and Metallica’s new album Lulu, which was released on November 1st. Director of photography, Matthew Libatique (Black Swan, The Wrestler, Requiem For A Dream) will be the DP and cameraman for the “Iced Honey” video. The clip will be shot in the San Francisco Bay Area and will be available for viewing later this month.

“I have loved Darren Aronofsky since he did ‘Pi’,” said Lou Reed. “I hope I can be his next Black Swan.”

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich adds, “As if making a record with Lou Reed is not enough….. now I get to make a video with Darren Aronofsky, who has been among my very favorite filmmakers since his first movie, ‘Pi.’ This is turning into a monumental chapter in the on-going saga entitled “Lars Ulrich…living the dream!!!”

A collaboration between Reed and Metallica, Lulu includes a set of extended songs inspired by German expressionist Frank Wedekind’s early 20th century plays Earth Spirit and Pandora’s Box, and were a rewrite of Edgar Allan Poe’s, The Raven, which emerged as a graphic novel on Fantagraphics Press.

Rolling Stone has called Lulu “one of the season’s hottest albums,” while the New York Times called it “a set of wrenching, astonishingly profane songs. Beneath Mr. Reed’s unblinking recitation, Metallica’s serrated guitars and drums churn like a torture device.” ARTISTdirect dubbed Lulu “the ultimate 21st century rock opera,” while CBS Sunday Morning called it “a testament to brains AND brawn.”

About Lou Reed: The king of New York avant-rock, Lou Reed made innovative, iconoclastic music with the profoundly influential The Velvet Underground before “Walk On The Wild Side” gave him 1972’s most unlikely pop hit. He reacted to this development with admirable perversity; releasing a stream of diverse and challenging solo albums, from the macabre, monumental Berlin to thesubtle, seductive Coney Island Baby, from the wallpaper-peeling Metal Machine Music (Cash Box review: no stars) to the punk pivot Street Hassle. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in 1996. Recent years have seen his always-present literary bent comeincreasingly to the fore on works like New York, Magic And Loss, and The Raven.

About Metallica: Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica have become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 100 million albums worldwide and playing to millions of fans the world over. They have scored almost a dozen multi-platinum albums, including 1991’s Metallica (commonly referred to as “The Black Album”), which is the best selling album in history of Soundscan scanning almost 15.7 million albums in the United States alone, and over 25 million worldwide. In October 2008, their latest album, Death Magnetic, debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and in 27 additional countries around the world. It was certified platinum in the United States just six weeks later. Metallica have also garnered numerous awards and accolades, including nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

About Darren Aronofsky: Darren Aronofsky’s films Black Swan, The Wrestler, The Fountain, Requiem For A Dream, and π have earned the Brooklyn native a number of honors including Academy Award and Golden Globe wins and nominations, three Independent Spirit Awards, plus various international film festival prizes. His honors also include the American Film Institute’s prestigious Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal and the Golden Horse Visionary Award presented by the Stockholm Film Festival.
