RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE 2012 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME IN APRIL

Posted in Artist Watch, News with tags , , , , , , , on December 8, 2011 by Randy

Los Angeles, CA – Multi-platinum rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers will be 2012 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, which honors legendary artists who have defined rock and roll and have inspired and continue to inspire a generation. To be eligible for nomination, performers must have released their first single or album at least 25 years before the year of nomination.

Formed in Hollywood, California in 1983, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of the most flamboyant, commercially successful, and musically influential bands of rock’s last quarter century. Singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Michael Balzary a/k/a Flea, guitarist Hillel Slovak, and drummer Jack Irons were high-school pals who combined their passions for Jimi Hendrix, ’70s R&B, and hardcore punk with sexual exuberance and local skateboard culture, immediately becoming famous for their outrageous (often near-naked) live shows and incendiary jamming. After Slovak’s death in 1988 and other personnel changes, the Chili Peppers – with guitar prodigy John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith – broke through with 1991’s BloodSugarSexMagik, a multi-platinum fusion of metal and rap that was pivotal in bringing modern black street culture and music to the Nirvana generation.

The Chili Peppers’ hits have run the melodic and emotional gamut from the fierce hip hop of BloodSugar’s “Give It Away” and the 1992 ballad “Under The Bridge,” (one of the best pop songs ever written about the grip of addiction), to the heavy riffing of “Scar Tissue” and the gorgeous melancholy of “Otherside” on 1999’s Californication. The Chili Peppers’ 2006 two-CD set Stadium Arcadium, an ambitious collection that added ’60s-pop harmonies, blazing psychedelia, and progressive-rock dynamics to their heavy California soul –  debuted at No. 1. After their longest hiatus ever, the Chili Peppers returned over the summer with 2011’s I’m With You (which debuted at No. 1 in 17 countries and has been nominated for a 2012 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album), and a new tour that will take them through 2013.

The 27th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 14th, 2012, in Cleveland and premiere on HBO in early May. The 2012 ceremony will again be open to the public. Please visit www.rockhall.com for more information.

For DEAD SON RISING–a far more experimental and unique album than such previous releases as–Jagged, Pure and Exile–GARY teamed up with longtime collaborator ADE FENTON to co-write and produce the effort.

NUMAN continues to put the finishing touches on his new album for 2012 titled SPLINTER. This summer, he collaborated with Battles for their new single “My Machines,” out now on Warp Records, see video below which also features GARY. No doubt the renewed vigor came partly from his critically acclaimed tour last fall celebrating the 30th anniversary of his seminal album The Pleasure Principle. GARY and his band thrilled sold-out crowds across the U.S. late last year. Expect the group to announce a worldwide tour soon.

SOULFLY TO RELEASE EIGHTH ALBUM ENSLAVED IN 2012 :::: THE BAND WILL CELEBRATE 15th ANNIVERSARY WITH A NEW ALBUM

Posted in Artist Watch, New Music, News with tags , , , , , on December 7, 2011 by Randy

New York, NY: 2012 will see the release of Enslaved, a brand new Soulfly album, which will be their eighth overall. While many bands barely make it to a third album, the Max Cavalera-led collective is still going strong two decades deep. 2012 also marks the band’s 15thanniversary of making a tribally-influenced metallic racket and what better way to celebrate than with a new record? The album will be released via longtime label Roadrunner Records, which has been Soulfly’s home for the course of its career. The label has also been Cavalera’s home for the duration of his career, which began in the ’80s as a member of  Sepultura, who essentially rewrote the rules of heavy music when they arrived on the scene; Max continues to do the same today.

The song remains insane for Soulfly, as does the lineup. The powerhouse lineup features Max and guitar dynamo Marc Rizzo, with Static-X’s Tony Campos taking up the bass. The lineup is rounded out by drummer David Kinkade, a new school, extreme skinsman whose brutality behind the kit brings a new flavor to the band.

Enslaved was recorded at Tallcat Studios in Phoenix, Arizona and was produced by Zeuss, the seasoned knob twiddler behind some of the most notable bands in metal today, such as Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, The Red Chord and more. Cavalera also shared production duties.

As is customary with Soulfly, the band will introduce some new and unexpected elements into the mix, including a guest violinist. Soulfly also collaborates with two metal veterans: Dez Fafara of Devildriver and Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation. With Dez and Max sharing a longtime connection through the Roadrunner family, it was only a matter of time before Fafara guested on a Soulfly album. Meanwhile, Ryan said it was “an honor to receive a call from someone you had pictures of on your wall as a kid.”

Cavalera also wrote a song “Revengeance” about his slain stepson Dana, whose death was the catalyst for the creation of Soulfly. He partners with his sons Igor and Richie on vocals, while his other son Zyon plays drums. It is the first time Max has performed with three of his sons.

The band tracked 14 songs, 11 of which will be on the record, with the other three being made available for the special edition. Track titles are as follows: “Resistance,” “World Scum,” “Intervention,” “Gladiator,” “Legions,” “American Steel,” “Redemption of Man By God,” “Treachery,” “Plata O Plomo,” “Revengeance,” “Chains,” “Slave,” “Bastards” and “Soulfly VIII.” Please note this is not the final track sequencing.

The album is due out in March 13, 2012. It follows 2010’s Omen.
