Any Man in America, Blue October’s New Album, Out Now

Art-rock band Blue October‘s front man Justin Furstenfeld has launched a new website in support of a cause near and dear to his heart. is a place for fathers, mothers and children who have dealt, or are dealing with, the issues of shared parenting and child custody to find their voice and speak their mind.  The goal of the site is to provide a positive and uplifting platform and support group for anyone who has dealt with the life-altering act of divorce and losing the ability to be with your child or parent on a daily basis. The way the site works is simple in that it allows anyone to upload a photo of themselves or a message they wish to send to their loved one.  The site uses LiveShare to stream the photos and allows members to interact and comment as well.  The site also links to other resources for anyone who has questions or needs more info dealing with this situation. Furstenfeld was moved to start this site because of his painful experience with his own ongoing divorce and struggle to remain an active part of his daughter’s life, something that has become the topic of his band’s latest release, Any Man In America.

Any Man In America is Blue October‘s sixth studio album, and takes the listener on a cathartic journey chronicling the deeply personal events that have unfolded in lead singer/songwriter Justin Furstenfeld’s life over the last several years. USA Today states “this one’s a doozy…It’ll tear your heart out,” giving it a 3-star (out of 4) rating.

The idea for the site came to Furstenfeld after filming the video for the song “The Feel Again (Stay)”.  In it, Furstenfeld sits in a chair singing the words while holding up paper messages for his daughter to read assuring her that the situation is not her fault.  The overwhelming response to that video showed Furstenfeld that he was not alone.  Justin Furstenfeld andBlue October have always been known for their charity work and have teamed up with the likes up Post Secret, Pick Up The Phone, 1 800-Suicide and To Write Love On Her Arms to name a few.  Justin decided to team up with The American Coalition for Fathers And Children after seeing their moving documentary Guilty Until Proven Innocent and speaking with Michael McCormick, who runs the organization.

McCormick says: “With the ‘Any Man In America’ website and album, Justin Furstenfeld and Blue October have provided a very real window that highlights a major flaw in society. Family court practices, which separate over 4,000 children from a parent every day claiming ‘the best interest of the child’, are barbaric.  Justin is focused on a top domestic social policy concern for children and parents.  All citizens have a stake in the outcome, show your support for Shared Parenting and tell your story at”

Multi-platinum rock band Blue October has landed their highest Billboard chart debut of their career with their latest album, Any Man In AmericaThe album, which was released on lead singer Justin Furstenfeld’s own UP/DOWN Records, debuted at #8 on the Billboard Top 200, was the second-highest debut on the chart this week and also landed at #2 on the Independent Album Chart, selling over 26,000 copies.

Furstenfeld had this to say about the band’s achievement: “I am in awe and beside myself with a big sigh and the most amazing crows flying in my stomach. The fact that when I started UP/DOWN Records, it was to prove that the listener can still be touched by artists with something to say, artists who are not afraid to stand up and remind listeners that they can still feel music like a first kiss. Making music that is real is what both Blue October and UP/DOWN records is all about.  I can’t thank everyone enough who has supported us and helped us achieve this milestone for the band.”

Any Man In America is the follow up to 2009’s Approaching Normal and is Blue October‘s sixth studio album overall. The album was produced by Furstenfeld (who also produced the band’s platinum breakthrough album Foiled), in association with Tim Palmer, who has produced and mixed for the likes of Robert Plant, Pearl Jam and U2.  Any Man In America takes the listener on a cathartic journey chronicling the deeply personal events that have unfolded in Justin Furstenfeld’s life since the band’s last release. USA Today states “this one’s a doozy…It’ll tear your heart out,” giving it a 3-star (out of 4) rating.

Any Man In America‘s debut single, “The Chills,” is currently making its way up the charts landing in the Top 40 at Alternative radio this week.  A video for the song was just released and you can check it out here. Blue October also recently released the touching video for “The Feel Again (Stay)”.  Directed by Merritt Fields, “The Feel Again (Stay)” is one of Blue October‘s most truthful and haunting videos to date, and has already reached over 200,000 views since being released. It can be seen here.

After a few dates in their home state of Texas last week, Blue October will resume their Any Man In America tour on September 8th in Phoenix. The tour stops in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and Las Vegas before wrapping on October 21st in New Orleans, LA. The Dallas Morning News recently raved “Wednesday’s performance showed a band that has not only arrived, but has set up a smooth-running and rewarding shop.” Justin and Blue October will be bringing representatives from the American Coalition of Fathers and Children on the road with them to educate fans about Family Breakdown, Divorce and Emotional Child Support.

Blue October is Justin Furstenfeld, Jeremy Furstenfeld, Ryan Delahoussaye, Matt Noveskey, and Julian Mandrake.

While prepping for the release of “Any Man In America,” (Blue October’s seventh full length album) Justin Furstenfeld gave me a call with all its raw details.  The album is a chronological order of events dating back to their last release, “Approaching Normal.”  Pick up the new album August 16th…it plays out like a novel.  To hear more about it and the answers to some fan questions on Facebook, listen below:
