MEGADETH–who wrap a tour of South America tonight (12/1) in Costa Rica–have received their tenth Grammy nomination for their latest effort. The group–singer/guitarist DAVE MUSTAINE, drummer SHAWN DROVER, guitarist CHRIS BRODERICK and bassist DAVID ELLEFSON–got a “Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Performance” nomination for their new single “Public Enemy #1” off their latest album TH1RT3EN (Roadrunner Records).  The “Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Performance” category is, eerily, category #13.

Of the nomination, MEGADETH founder DAVE MUSTAINE says, “In such uncertain times, it’s just an honor to be recognized by our peers, and anything above that is remarkable.”  Check out the song’s video here: http://youtu.be/qHMUyHZi440 or their performance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” here: http://youtu.be/JgXEnIhCMsI“Public Enemy #1” actually marks the second Grammy nomination for music from TH1RT3EN, as the song “Sudden Death” was first unveiled in the 2010 video game “Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock” and received a “Best Metal Performance” nod.

The band’s 13th album, the appropriately titled Th1rt3en, was released November 1 and debuted at #11 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #1 on the Billboard Hard Rock chart. The album also landed on international charts including Top 10 placements in Argentina, Finland, Korea and Japan.

While promoting the critically praised TH1RT3EN, MUSTAINE stopped by the VH1 Classic’s studios to chat with That Metal Show. A sneak peek of the episode–which will air this Saturday, 12/3 at 11/10pm CT–can be seen here: http://www.vh1.com/video/misc/715864/that-metal-show-season-9-episode-3-dave-mustaine.jhtml#id=1675201.

In other MEGADETH news, the group will again launch their acclaimed GIGANTOUR in 2012. The tour also features MOTÖRHEAD, VOLBEAT and LACUNA COIL, all personally picked by MUSTAINE.  It will kick off January 26 in Camden, NJ.  Before wrapping February 28 in Denver, CO, the tour will make stops all across the U.S. and Canada including a January 28 show in New York and February 24 in Los Angeles (full itinerary below).  The new www.gigantour.com website is now up and running featuring the latest news and video for all performing artists as well as a look back to previous tours. Tickets are available via the website as are MEGADETH Ultimate VIP Packages. Packages include meet ‘n greet photo op with MEGADETH band members, priority access general admission ticket, pre-show refreshments, specially designed MEGADETH t-shirt, exclusive lithograph, laminate and more. Packages are limited.

In a three-out-of-four star CD review, USA Today’s Brian Mansfield wrote, “The material stretches from tunes that sound like snarly, early Alice Cooper to politically minded thrash, a wide-ranging approach that should give all the group’s fans something they like…(11/1/11)” while Billboard’s Gary Graff called the record “a ripping, muscular exercise in hard-hitting rage ‘n roll…Th1rt3en shows they’re not ready to rust in peace quite yet (11/5/11).” Dan Epstein of Revolver raved “…from the opening blast of ‘Sudden Death,’ there’s no mistaking the innate Megadeth-ness of it all…the two Daves are now once again churning up acres of scorched earth together the way they used to do in the band’s prime.  But the album also marks drummer Shawn Drover’s third recorded outing with the group, and guitarist Chris Broderick’s second, which may be why Th1rt3en swings and swaggers like no Megadeth album in recent memory…Megadeth’s best and most vital album of the 21st century…(Nov/Dec 2011).”

CYPHERSEER CHECKS IN FROM THE STUDIO

Posted in All Metal, New Music, News with tags , , , , , on November 17, 2011 by Randy

CypherSeer are currently in the studio working on their follow up to their last release “Origins”. Guitarist Sergio Ribiero has checked in with an update on the bands progress:

First order of business- CypherSeer would like to announce that for the next record, Martin Brändström from the band Dark Tranquillity, will be laying down all the keyboard work. After months searching and speaking with some of the industry’s best and most respected keyboardists, Martin just absolutely blew us away with his ideas and playing. We felt an immediate connection and we felt his keyboard style would fit our music the best, since we are aiming for a more updated overall sound on the up-coming record.

Speaking of our new record…We are currently recording demos to be shipped out for editing, and soon after that, the actual recording will begin. As of right now the projected date for the start of recording is mid January. In terms of the actual songs, we feel that we are getting ever-closer to the sound that defines CypherSeer. We were very meticulous and made sure all the songs were to their absolute potential before we started demoing them. In comparison to “Origins”, the new songs are darker, heavier and took an overall ominous direction, which is something absolutely new to us, but at the same time it felt very organic when we were in the writing process. Nothing was forced and we tried to do away with as much “filler” as possible. Also in this next album, we conclude the “Haunted Saga” story, with 3 more songs. The story ends in a dramatic, epic battle that makes one think if such thing is possible – no lack of creativity here.

CypherSeer will be playing a few shows in between the recording – Jan 6th at Kaza Rock in Newark NJ (other bands in the bill tbd) and on Jan 11 at The Gramercy Theater in NYC with legendary metal band Sanctuary.

We also have setup an online store – CypherSeer.bigcartel.com – selling all our t-shirts. More merchandise to be added soon.

CypherSeer’s latest release “Origins” is available for purchase HERE.

The vision, sound, and drive are completely in sync, as a new era begins…

RIOT :::: NEW SONG STREAMING

Posted in All Metal, Artist Watch, New Music, News with tags , , , , , , on November 15, 2011 by Randy

The wait is nearly over! Legendary US metal outfit RIOT are releasing their hugely anticipated fourteenth album ‘Immortal Soul’ in North America via SPV/Steamhammer this coming Tuesday November 22nd.

Examiner.com is hosting an exclusive premiere of another new track from ‘Immortal Soul’. Check out the track “Believe”. Get an exclusive first listen HERE, courtesy of Examiner.com
The band has created a promo video, featuring a song from the album: “Wings Are for Angels”: http://www.youtube.com/user/officialriotnycTV#p/a/u/1/GuoD3Bzpnr4
This was released earlier this year for a Japanese Tsunami relief album by Avalon/Marquee, and it earned massive positive feedback already. The album “Immortal Soul” was released last week by Avalon/Marquee in Japan and it received #2 in the most prestigious magazine BURRN! Right behind the highly anticipated new Chickenfoot album.

“Wow, this is quite an achievement” comments Tony Moore. Chickenfoot is an all star band and gets hyped across the world. And we are next in line? This is awesome! Thank you Japan, we sure want to be out there as soon as possible in 2012.

Tony Moore, who is still recovering from an oral surgery, adds: “We are really happy about all that positive feedback for Immortal Soul, but equally for the fact that RIOT is back. Journalists all over the world give us the highest marks and speak about this album very highly. We have interviews on a daily basis and I believe every magazine on this planet has a RIOT story in their current / next issue.”

Right now RIOT is about to confirmed a few US shows in early 2012- dates and venues to be revealed soon – and are looking forward to play the 70,000 tons of Metal Cruise in January. More info on www.70000tons.com .

BLACK SABBATH REUNITES TO RECORD FIRST NEW STUDIO ALBUM IN 33 YEARS AND LAUNCH MASSIVE WORLD TOUR IN 2012

Posted in All Metal, Artist Watch, News, Releases with tags , , , , , , , , on November 11, 2011 by Randy

OZZY OSBOURNE, TONY IOMMI, GEEZER BUTLER AND BILL WARD UNVEIL PLANS ON 11/11/11 AT A LOS ANGELES PRESS CONFERENCE AT THE WHISKY A GO-GO, WHERE THE BAND PERFORMED THEIR FIRST LOS ANGELES DATE EXACTLY 41 YEARS AGO

After much speculation, the original four members of BLACK SABBATHOZZY OSBOURNE (vocals), TONY IOMMI (guitar), GEEZER BUTLER (bass) and BILL WARD (drums)–have reunited to record their first new studio album in 33 years with producer Rick Rubin (seven-time Grammy winner, two of those as Producer of the Year) and to embark on a massive world tour in 2012.

OSBOURNE, IOMMI, BUTLER and WARD as well as Rubin all gathered today on 11/11/11 to announce the news at a Los Angeles press conference at the legendary club, the Whisky A Go-Go, the site of the groundbreaking and influential band’s first L.A. concert exactly 41 years ago (Nov 11, 1970).  The event was hosted by the revered musical and spoken word artist Henry Rollins who has said that “Any band worth their weight in napalm wishes they had written ‘War Pigs.’”

Selling over 70 million albums together, the Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have signed a new record deal worldwide with Vertigo and Vertigo/ Universal Republic in the U.S., the band’s original label.  BLACK SABBATH is now in the studio recording the as-yet-untitled new album for release in the fall of 2012 (exact date TBA).  It will mark their ninth studio album together and their first since 1978’s Never Say Die!

Next summer, BLACK SABBATH will headline the mammoth multi-day UK Download Festival in the U.K. on June 10. The new album will then be supported with a worldwide headline arena tour (dates TBA).

BLACK SABBATH also announced today the launch of www.blacksabbath.com, the first-ever official BLACK SABBATH website for all authorized BLACK SABBATH news.  In addition, the band’s online presence will also be supported by social media via Facebook and Twitter–again, marking the band’s first-ever foray into the social media world.

BLACK SABBATH released their self-titled debut album in 1970. “Black Sabbath is credited with creating heavy metal,” according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  “The success of their first two albums–Black Sabbath and Paranoid–marked a paradigm shift in the world of rock. Not until Black Sabbath upended the music scene did the term ‘heavy metal’ enter the popular vocabulary to describe the denser, more thunderous offshoot of rock over which they presided.”  The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame also noted, “…they remain one of the most misunderstood bands in rock history,” adding: “The band’s musicality was generally overlooked, but they possessed an inventiveness and fluency that, in hindsight, makes them seem as much of a progressive-rock band as a heavy-metal one.”

In 1998, BLACK SABBATH released Reunion from their 1997 concerts in Birmingham, England, a two-CD live set that featured two new studio songs.  The band has also sporadically reunited for shows in 1999, 2002 and 2004; in 2005, the four performed concerts together when they toured Europe and then headlined the 10th anniversary of Osbourne’s namesake festival OZZfest. Also in 2005, they were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame by Brian May of Queen. This was followed by their induction in 2006 into the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on them by Metallica’s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.
