MULTI-PLATINUM ROCKERS DROWNING POOL TO PART WAYS WITH SINGER

Posted in Artist Watch, News, Releases with tags , , , , , , , , on November 30, 2011 by Randy

New York, NY- All-American anthemic rockers Drowning Pool announced today that they will be parting ways with their current singer, Ryan McCombs. The hard working Texas band, who has worked with 3 singers in their 10 year career, issued the following statement:

“We have always been a band who has gained success despite having multiple singers…maybe we suffer from reverse ‘lead singer’s disease,” said C.J. Pierce. “Changing things up has not always been easy, but the band has become re-energized time and time again.  We are looking to find a new singer who will give both us and, and most importantly our fans, the new adrenaline shot they deserve.” He went on to say, “We do wish Ryan great success in his future endeavors.” McCombs, who had been part of the band since 2006, replaced singer Jason Jones, who joined Drowning Pool following the tragic passing of Dave Williams.

Drowning Pool turned the world into believers with their breakthrough single “Bodies” in 2001. Ten years, three singers and four albums later, they’re giving fans a new reason to believe.  “Feel Like I Do,” the lead single from their self-titled fourth studio release [Eleven Seven Music], became the band’s biggest radio hit to date, reaching No. 2 at Active Rock Radio, and remaining in the Top 5 for 12-weeks.  With 2009’s “37 Stitches” off of Full Circle reaching #4 at Active Rock and “Feel Like I Do,” the band had 2 consecutive Top 5 Active Rock smashes and cemented their place as one of the top hard rock acts today. The band’s sophomore album, Desensitized with second singer Jason Jones spawned a Top 10 hit with “Step Up.” Recent successes have paved the way for unique opportunities such as presenting the Lane Evans Mental Health Care Reform to then-senator Barack Obama on Capitol Hill, performing for our troops all over the world and partnering with organizations like The Wounded Warrior Project and the G.I. Film Festival.

Drowning Pool is currently looking to find a suitable replacement for McCombs.  In the meantime, they have already begun writing their 5th studio album in their hometown of Dallas.

Drowning Pool is C.J. Pierce – guitar/ vocals, Stevie Benton – bass/vocals, and Mike Luce – drums/vocals.

FANS OF THE SMASHING PUMPKINS TO GET BONUS TRACKS WITH ORDER OF ‘GISH’ AND ‘SIAMESE DREAM’ OUT TODAY

Posted in Artist Watch, News, Releases with tags , , , , , , , on November 29, 2011 by Randy

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS’ longtime strong bond with their fans continues today (Tuesday, November 29 at 9:00AM) via The Smashing Pumpkins Record Club when the reissues of their first two albums–1991’s Gish and 1993’s Siamese Dream–become available.

According to the band’s website www.smashingpumpkins.com/reissues, fans will get five free unreleased demo tracks for download: “All orders of Gish and/or Siamese Dream include an instant download of the four tracks that have been previously available only through the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club (SPRC) – the 8-track demo of “Drown,” “Suicide Kiss Geek” (no vox), “Barb Wire” and “Rhinoceros Version 2,” plus one new exclusive. As a little bonus for purchasing these from the SPRC directly, we have found another little buried treasure for you. Enjoy the “Frail and Bedazzled Instrumental” — This is a Billy Corgan home demo from back in the day! While you are at it, be sure to sign up for the SPRC for future gems…Digital purchases will be delivered via download link at midnight on November 29. There are standard and deluxe versions available of each album, with different tracklists.”

Both albums, each with bonus content and special features that were curated from the band’s archives by founding member Billy Corgan, have been painstakingly remastered for the first time from the original master tapes by Bob Ludwig.

After touring America and Europe this fall–the trek launched October 5 in Los Angeles and wraps December 8 inLisbon–they will release OCEANIA, “an album within an album,” as part of their in-progress 44-song work TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE.  Featuring 13 new songs, OCEANIA will be released in early 2012 (further details TBA).

Here is some of the early critical praise for the Gish and Siamese Dream reissues:

“Billy Corgan brought an auteur’s sensibility to Nineties alternative rock: he didn’t smash guitars, he stroked them into ecstatic swells of heaviosity as he cooed composition-book poetry.  With 1993’s Siamese Dream–which, like the band’s debut, Gish, had been beautifully remastered and loaded with extras, including a hometown show on DVD–Corgan built a monument to art rock and OCD.  His dizzy, acid-softened side lent songs like ‘Hummer’ their poignancy–and animates the best bonus material (12/8/11).”  (Four-out-of five star review)

–Nick Catcucci, ROLLING STONE, 12/8/11 (regarding Siamese Dream)

“The outtakes show the work in progress. A rehearsal demo of ‘Today’ hums along like a perfectly agreeable hard-rock track that probably would’ve been played on emerging alternative-rock stations and then forgotten. But Corgan later came up with an intro guitar part that gave the song its chiming fragility, a sense that its beauty and optimism were just a cover-up…More than any moment, ‘Today’ is the pivot point of the Pumpkins’ career, a breakthrough song for a band that had been all about sound. Siamese Dream was loaded with melodies, from “Luna” (both in its gossamer studio version and its even more haunting “apartment demo”) to the scorched overdrive of ‘Cherub Rock,’ Corgan’s raised middle finger to the independent-rock scene that never embraced him…Corgan was a stoop-shouldered suburban misfit from a splintered household, much like many in his audience, and Siamese Dream became a soundtrack for a significant portion of his generation.”  (4 out of 4 stars)

–Greg Kot, CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 11/27/11 (regarding Siamese Dream)

“The remastered albums still sound potent–a testament to the rigorous attention to detail that Corgan and producer Butch Vig brought to the original sessions…Gish remains among the more sensual hard-rock albums of the decade…His voice rides the curve of the guitars, the arrangements swerving rather than stomping in typical hard-rock fashion, yielding surprises with each turn. For all its sensitivity to flow, the group could crush your skull when you least expected it, going from near-silence to a thunderclap. The ebb-and-surge dynamics in a track such as “Siva” still impress, as if Corgan were trying to compress a side-long suite by his beloved Rush into four minutes.”  (regarding Gish3.5 out of 4 stars)

— Greg Kot, CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 11/27/11

“…Siamese Dream‘s songs don’t blend into each other, but some transitions exist; each stands out in a brilliant sequence, forming perhaps the best concept album they ever made.” 10-out-of-10 rating

CHEVELLE GETS READY TO RELEASE ‘HATS OFF TO THE BULL’ DECEMBER 6 ::: NEW TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED ::: FULL-LENGTH ALBUM LEAD BY EXPLOSIVE SINGLE ‘FACE TO THE FLOOR,’ #1 ON THE ACTIVE ROCK CHART

Posted in Artist Watch, New Music, News, Releases with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 28, 2011 by Randy

Chicago alternative hard rock trio CHEVELLE is getting ready to release their sixth album HATS OFF TO THE BULL, Tuesday, December 6 via Epic Records. In anticipation of the LP, CHEVELLEPETE LOEFFLER (Guitars, Vocals), SAM LOEFFLER (Drums) and DEAN BERNARDINI (Bass, Vocals)–has announced a new string of dates, including a couple high-profile radio shows (dates listed below). Before kicking off their fall trek, the group will perform two special “Project: Occupy Chevelle” gigs; the first in their hometown of Chicago on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Subterranean and the second in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at the Rock and Roll Hotel.

On Thursday, Dec. 8 CHEVELLE will perform live on ABC TV’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (12 ET/PT/11pmCT). On Saturday, Dec. 10 the group will join Blink-182, Incubus, Bush, Social Distortion, New Found Glory, 311 and Young the Giant for the sold-out 22nd annual KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas show. They’ll follow up the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas gig with a stop by the nationally syndicated radio show Rockline on Monday, Dec. 12.

HATS OFF TO THE BULL is charging full-speed ahead with the release of the album’s first single “Face To The Floor” which continues its ascent at radio nationwide. As soon as the explosive track hit airwaves, it became the #1 most added record at Active and Alternative Rock radio, a testament to the band’s songwriting prowess and eternal knack for a hit. Billboard magazine singled out the song which currently sits atop the Active Rock chart at #1,

“Over a chugging, post-grunge guitar riff, singer Pete Loeffler proclaims, ‘To Pick up the tip doesn’t mean a lot/Fiddle inside your drawers/If we own the night then spread it out/Or pack up without a clue.’ A succinct survey of how most of the nation is smarting from hard economic times–complete with a Bernie Madoff reference in the lyrics–‘Floor’ delivers nearly four minutes of the cathartic alt-metal fans have come to expect from Chevelle. This time, though, the band wants to stir their minds, not just their tempers.” –Michael B. Depland

Most artists with over 12 years in the music industry lose their initial fire, but CHEVELLE burn brighter than ever on HATS OFF TO THE BULL. Rather than simply subscribing to a tried-and-true formula, they–alongside producer Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Coheed and Cambria)–made a conscious effort to incorporate new sounds and textures into their patented airtight anthems. As a result, the group composed its most infectious, intriguing, and impressive offering to date.

“We’re evolving,” declares PETE LOEFFLER. “The album is different, and it’s going to take some people by surprise.” “Face to the Floor”–a song that taps right into the current state of the public’s growing mistrust of economic systems–is emblematic of the band’s progression. A grinding riff snakes through a hypnotic haze as PETE rails against the corporate corruption of Bernie Madoff on one of the most explosive hooks of the band’s career.

Fans can also pre-order the album via their website at www.chevelleinc.com or iTunes at http://bit.ly/v4zCra. Those that purchase on iTunes also get an extra, exclusive track titled “Indifference.” Signed limited edition laminates and album downloads are also available via the band’s official Ebay.com store: http://www.ebay.com/sch/officialchevellemerchstore/m.html.
