BEARTOOTH DEBUT ALBUM DISGUSTING OUT TODAY VIA RED BULL RECORDS

Posted in Artist Watch, Featured, New Music, News, Releases, Shows with tags , , , , , , on June 11, 2014 by Randy

Columbus, OH hardcore outfit Beartooth has released their debut full length album Disgusting today via Red Bull Records. Watch the video for new song “Beaten In Lips” here, watch an exclusive behind the scenes clip and stream the album here and buy the album here.

Written, performed, produced and mixed by 21 year-old Caleb Shomo, Disgusting shares equal inspiration with brutal metalcore as with old-school punk like The Ramones and the bombastic theatricality of Queen. The end result is a back-to-basics hardcore stomp interspersed with anthemic choruses that prompted Alternative Press to name Beartooth one of their ‘Bands You Need to Know in 2014’ and feature Caleb on their July issue cover.

More early praise for Disgusting:

“A breathless, bile-filled audio belch. Screams are instinctive, not stylized. Lyrics are like bloodstained diary entries…Equally emotional and exhilarating, Disgusting is a contender fordebut album of the year.”
Rock Sound
“A band to watch” – Revolver
Disgusting is a roller coaster ride of truth, rebellion and raw emotion guaranteed to seize the attention of skeptics and eager fans alike. 9/10.” – Outburn
“Trust us when we say they will be one of your favourite bands by the end of 2014.” – Big Cheese
“Set to be one of the year’s biggest new bands.” – Metal Hammer
“An absolutely exhilarating listen. 4 ½ stars” – Alternative Press
“The world’s best new band.” – Kerrang
“An onslaught of great riffs and catchy choruses…Shomo has done a fantastic job. 4 ½ stars.” HM

Beartooth began as a way for Caleb to blow off steam after leaving his role as front man for Attack Attack! Caleb and his hometown friends started jamming; hanging out in his basement studio and playing music for fun. They released an EP, Sick, and then hit the road, touring North America with August Burns Red, Memphis May Fire and others. In between support slots the five-piece headlined everywhere from basements to club shows, building a strong and devoted following. The EP’s accompanying music videos quickly accumulated almost 2 million views and set the stage for Disgusting.

Fresh from a UK & European tour with Of Mice & Men, Beartooth will be heading out on the entire length of this year’s Vans Warped Tour, which kicks off June 13th in Houston, TX.  Full tour dates are below.

Vans Warped Tour 2013 – Pittsburgh [Review]

Posted in All Metal, News, Reviews with tags , , , , , , , on July 25, 2013 by Randy

Yet again, the Vans Warped Tour is the must see North American tour with some fifty plus bands ranging in genres from Hardcore (No Bragging Rights) to Pop/Punk, Metal, and even some 90’s alternative (Reel Big Fish).  Just like every year though, there are so many bands to see and not enough time – hint:  grab a time schedule for your city and plan wisely.  Dressing accordingly doesn’t hurt either…you’ll most likely be running from stage to stage, over black top, and maybe even over a hill or two just catch your favorite artists.  Regardless of those minor setbacks, this tour is always a good time and a staple for music enthusiasts.

Opening up the day in Pittsburgh, PA were a couple big names in the industry: Hawthorne Heights and Like Moths to Flames.  Speaking of Hawthorne Heights, a unique bit of information was learned after talking to JT Woodruff (guitarist and vocalist of Hawthorne Heights)…First Niagara Pavilion (previously Star Lake Amphitheater) was the site for JT’s first ever concert experience as a spectator and the days act was none other than Boys to Men.  As the day flew by bands and fans alike had to endure blistering temperatures which then turned into a short period of rain, followed by the sun coming back out and boosting the humidity to high levels.  A good example for dressing accordingly and staying hydrated was front man for The Amity Affliction (Joel Birch), who was rushed to the hospital about a half hour before the bands set.  He suffered from a slight heat stroke and the band had to cancel the days show as well as the following tour stop.  Within a few hours of being taken to the hospital we were informed by their merch guy that Joel was in stable condition.  Thankfully everything was fine for him but it is just a small reminder to everyone that the heat and dehydration is nothing to laugh at, ignorance towards the matter could result in a horrible outcome.  Wrapping up the day were some of the most popular acts around, bands from industry veterans like August Burns Red and Sleeping with Sirens, to a band that has been climbing the charts and gaining recognition by everyone in the metal-core scene, Crown the Empire.  CTE is signed to Rise Records and have been working their tails off over the last year to promote their first major label release, “The Fallout,” which has been getting lots of attention from every media outlet.  The kids in Crown the Empire embody so much passion and energy, and have a bright future ahead of them.  Great music and an amazing live set certify them as a must see band, no matter the tour and/or venue.

Hats off to Kevin Lyman (creator of Warped, Mayhem, and Taste of Chaos tours) and all the bands that helped Warped Tour ’13 live up to the reputation it’s acquired over the years.  To those out there who live near a city with an upcoming date, make sure you make it…you won’t be disappointed.

PASSAFIRE SET TO RELEASE START FROM SCRATCH ON SEPT 20

Posted in Artist Watch, News with tags , , , on July 19, 2011 by Randy

Georgia Rockers Debut New Song Today On VansWarpedTour.com

July 18, 2011 – Los Angeles, CA – Savannah, GA based rock band Passafire will release their fourth studio album, Start From Scratch, on September 20th via their newly formed FlameGuy Records.  Currently performing on the Vans Warped Tour, Passafire has premiered the title track from the new album today on VansWarpedTour.com.  Listen here: http://vanswarpedtour.com/blog/id/1844876.  Passafire has also announced they will kick off their “Start From Scratch Fall Tour” with special guests Jimkata in September in support of the new album.
Made up of Ted Bowne (guitar/vocals), Will Kubley (bass/vocals), Mike DeGuzman (keys) and Nick Kubley (drums), Passafire cohesively melds influences of rock, funk, reggae and electronic creating an upbeat dance party that has fans across the country singing along.
Passafire spent the beginning of 2011 in El Paso, TX where they recorded Start From Scratch with producer Paul Leary (guitarist for Butthole Surfers and producer for Sublime and Meat Puppets).  For their fourth album, the band explored their roots and broadened their horizons further than ever before, incorporating new sounds and ideas within the music.
“This album represents a new era of Passafire music in that it digs deeper into what we have only scratched the surface of so far in the studio,” says Bowne.  “We got to elaborate on our ideas of incorporating electronic and acoustic sounds surrounding the core style we have already established.  Fans can expect a few acoustic “slow jam ballads” as well as a few new up-beat rockers that push the boundaries of Passafire’s hard rock side.  The lyrics are playful, insightful, and carefully placed. Once again we have managed to make a record with no profanity which, I think, helps to push it out toward a broader audience. There are songs with stories behind them and songs written like abstract pieces of art. It’s a good variety of slow and fast paced stuff with a good amount of synths and acoustic.”
Formed in 2003 by students attending Savannah College of Art and Design, Passafire got their big break from Pepper in 2007, who saw the band’s amazing potential and would go on to sign and release their albums Submersible and Everyone on Everynight on the band’s independent LAW Records.  Submersible was recognized by iTunes as one of the “10 Best Reggae Albums” of 2007 and Everyone on Everynight debuted at #1 on iTunes reggae chart.
No strangers to the road, Passafire has performed with a variety of acts like 311, Toots and the Maytals, Matisyahu and The Wailers over the years, honing their craft and assembling a swell of grass roots support along the way.  The band is currently on the Vans Warped Tour and will kick off their “Start From Scratch Fall Tour” in September.
